Why Pray?
Prayer is to me a connection between creator and creature. In prayer, I open my heart to the will of God, my Creator. I ask the Holy Spirit to guide me with her imaginative wisdom. I ask Jesus to be my companion.
Why the Rosary?
When I pray the rosary, I contemplate the mysteries of our salvation from Jesus’ life on earth through the birth of our church viewed through the eyes of the Blessed Virgin Mary. In my humanity, I am united to the cross of Christ. Mary walked the way of that cross with her son. The rosary is a conduit to the cross and to knowing God’s will for my life.
Why Poetry and Song?
Often when I pray, I use the emotion of poetry and song to illuminate the words of scripture, adding spiritual depth and insight to my prayer.
For me, the unique rhythm of a sung rosary added to the continuous motion of a walk or run can further elevate my prayer experience.
Why the Fluctuating Hail Marys?
In We Sing a Rosary, the alternating themes of reverence and joy for the sung Hail Marys make it easy for me to track each decade when I am on the move. This gives the prayer an ebb and flow that comes with frequent pauses for natural breathing.
Why You and Yours?
I encounter Mary as my advocate and guide using the words You and Yours in place of Thee and Thou when I sing a Hail Mary. This fervent scriptural prayer binds my experiences to those of our Blessed Mother. Connection to her holy example both grounds me and uplifts my soul.
